Week 1- Lab 2

MY OWN MATCHMOVING EXPERIENCE!

After learning how to do a simple matchmove in the previous lab, i managed to apply the skills that i learnt into a video that my group shot on our own. As i had already done this, i did not have too many problems doing this.

Project 2- Proud and Arrogant Walk Cycle

QUESTION 2
My walk cycle shows a proud and arrogant person. I felt that my walk cycle really brought out the emotion that i was trying to portray.

I started off with the legs. After doing a simple walk cycle for the legs, similar to the walk cycle in question 1, started tweaking it. I started off with the knee. i made the knee point outwards a little. I realised that this would make Mani look more realistic, after watching plenty of videos on youtube.

I also made the foot point outwards as i came to realise that people usually walk with their feet angled a outwards.

I clenched the fist to make Mani look proud. I had to experiment with the different values to make the fist look realistic.

I had to exaggerate the movements to portray the arrogance clearly.

I made mani look upwards to show how proud and arrogant he is.

Problems
I did not face too many problems while doing this second question, as i already managed to experiment with the first standard walk cycle that i had done. I learnt from the mistakes that i did in my previous exercise.

The basic problems i faced was that my animation did not show the arrogance the first few times i did it. After editing certain parts, and exaggerating the movements, i was satisfied with my work.

Conclusion
Overall, i learnt a lot while doing my project 2. I had fun while doing this, and trying out different values to make my animation look realistic. The materials that was provided on olive were really useful, and the research i did on my own also helped me out with the animation.

Project 2- Standard Walk Cycle

Question 1

REFLECTION

This is my standard walk cycle. I used various videos from youtube, and the notes posted on olive as references to make this animation as realistic as possible. I did various things to make Mani look as realistic as possible

I made the fingers bend a little inwards to make it look realistic, rather than stiff and straight. I felt that Mani would look very robotic if his Fingers were straight.

Similar to the fingers, i made his arms bend a little when his hand swings forward and backwards when walking, to make him look relaxed.

I rotated the hips such that, when his leg is infront, the him will be rotated towards it. I realised that the hips moved together with the legs when walking, by watching various youtube videos, and observing. The practices in class also gave me some practice for this.

Not only do the hips move when walking, the shoulders move when the arms swing as well. Therefore i rotated the shoulders too, to match the movement of the hands. The movement of the hands corresponded with the movement of the legs.

Apart from these, i also angled the feet outwards as i realised that that it how men usually walk.

Problems

I did face a few problems while creating this animation. I realised that although mani looked natural from the front, his side view did not really look very natural. I realised that his legs stretched too far back. Furthermore, the leg looks like it is sliding when its moving from the front to the back. I had a lot of problems trying to solve this.

After redoing my work a few times, i managed to fix this problem.

CONCLUSION
I leant a lot while doing this assignment. Although i made a few mistakes along the way, i learnt from my mistakes, and did better for Question 2. I am satisfied with my walk cycle.
